This blog post is about the author, Marco Mels. I created this WordPress site for my own use. Many things I have collected over time are stored somewhere for later use—OneDrive, locally on a PC, or scribbled down on a notepad. Much of it ends up in the big round archive or is never further developed.
Career of the author
Right after completing HEAO, I started working at Microsoft. There, I held various roles, such as Exchange Support staff from 1998 to 2004. In this role, I provided support to Microsoft enterprise customers within EMEA for implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting critical issues in their Exchange Server environments. From 2004 to 2006, I was the Technical Lead for the Exchange Server vendor team. In 2006, I joined the Dynamics NAV team as a support staff member, and in 2009, I became Senior Technical Support Escalation Engineer within that team. I held this position until 2023. In 2023, I started working for the partner GAC Business Solutions in Oirschot as a Senior Technical Consultant. More information can be found on my LinkedIn profile.
Besides my work at Microsoft and GAC Business Solutions, I was also involved for several years in the Coöperatie Meer Riethoven. I held a board position there. Together with other dedicated board members, I aimed to represent the interests of Riethoven and improve its livability. I am no longer involved in this.
Hobbies and free time
Alongside my professional and board responsibilities, I have various hobbies that enrich my life. One of my passions is playing guitar. Music is a creative outlet for me and provides relaxation after a busy workday. I am also active as a volleyball player, enjoying teamwork, competition, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
I was born in Hoogvliet, raised in Spijkenisse, and finally spent my student years in Rotterdam. After several years, I moved to Maarssen and eventually settled in Riethoven. I still live there with my girlfriend Marga and our two children, Kevin and Nessa.
